How to Choose a Packaging Box Manufacturer in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad has no shortage of box makers, and most quotes look alike on the first page. The differences show later — on the tenth order rather than the first, on a humid route rather than a dry one. These are the questions that bring them out before you commit.

Eight questions to ask a box manufacturer

  1. What do you make in house? Board, printing, die-cutting and finishing under one roof mean fewer hand-offs — and fewer places for the specification to change.
  2. Will you state the specification in writing? Ply, board grade, flute, bursting strength and internal dimensions, on the quote.
  3. Will I get a physical sample to test with my own product before bulk production?
  4. How are repeat orders kept the same? The answer should be an approved specification that every re-order is made to.
  5. What is your range? Which ply, flutes, print processes and converting options — and which not.
  6. What will you not make? A supplier who says plainly where their range ends is easier to trust on the rest.
  7. Is freight included? A delivered price and an ex-works price are not comparable.
  8. Who do I talk to when something goes wrong? Direct access to the plant resolves problems faster than a chain of agents.

Comparing quotes like for like

Quote lineWhy it matters
PlyThe number of fluted walls — the biggest single driver of strength and price
Board gradePaper weight (GSM) and quality in each layer
Bursting strengthA figure you can check the delivered board against
FluteChanges cushioning, stacking and print quality
DimensionsInternal or external — they are not the same box
PrintNumber of colours and process
Price basisDelivered or ex-works
Minimum orderWhether the price holds at your quantity

If two quotes differ on any of these lines, they are for different boxes, and the cheaper one may simply be lighter board.

Warning signs

  • A price given without asking what the box will carry.
  • Only “standard sizes” on offer, with no discussion of fit.
  • No written specification, or a specification that changes between quote and invoice.
  • No sample before bulk production.
  • Claims of certifications or test results that cannot be shown.

FAQQuestions, answered

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare quotes from box manufacturers?
Line by line: ply, board grade, bursting strength, flute, internal dimensions, print colours, minimum order, and whether the price is delivered or ex-works. Two quotes that differ on any of these are not for the same box.
Why do corrugated box prices differ so much between suppliers?
Mostly because the boxes differ: paper grade and weight, ply, flute, print and freight. A lower price often means lighter board — which is fine if it still carries your load, and costly if it does not.
Should I buy from a manufacturer or a trader?
A manufacturer controls the board, the print and the repeat specification directly; a trader passes your order to someone who does. For industrial boxes that must stay the same from order to order, buying from the plant is simpler.
What lead time should I expect?
It depends on the box, the print and the quantity, and is confirmed with your quote. Repeat orders to an approved specification can run to an agreed schedule.
